[TV Review] Power Hour – 2.23.91

powerhour

Commentators: Jim Ross & Paul E. Dangerously

All of the recycled footage ever. This show keeps giving me nothing to work with but I’m committed to recapping every TV episode they do so here we are.

The Lineup

  • Ron Simmons vs. Scott Sandlin (Pro – 1.26.91)
  • Sting vs. Buddy Landell (Pro – 2.9.91)
  • Segment: Wrestling News Network w/ Gordon Solie
  • Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich vs. Arn Anderson & Barry Windham (Pro – 2.2.91)
  • Lex Luger vs. John Peterson (Pro – 2.2.91)
  • Sid Vicious vs. Johnny Boyd (Pro – 2.2.91)

*****

Paul E. Dangerously interviews Ron Simmons and 1990 PWI Manager of the Year Teddy Long. Simmons is all about the wrestling, Long is all about the riches. Scott Sandlin tries to attack Simmons from behind before the bell rings like an idiot.

Ron Simmons [w/ Teddy Long] vs. Scott Sandlin

The opening segment and this match happened on the 1.26.91 edition of Pro but Sandlin was billed as Bob Harman. I think. Honestly this could be a different match but the opening segment was definitely the same. Simmons wins quickly. Come to think of it the original match had Schiavone calling completely different moves at times so maybe his commentary was put onto this match instead of the original? I’m purely speculating, of course. (2:10)

  • Final Rating: SQUASH

Ross and Dangerously talk about the debut of Big Josh last Saturday on World Championship Wrestling. Cut to the footage from the show. He’s a hunting buddy of Tommy Rich apparently, but we’ll know him by the end of the year as a running buddy of P.N. News. Oh yay P.N. News is debuting soon! Big Josh will be in action on WCW later today and commentary for the show will be handled by Dangerously and Bob Caudle. That’s gonna be an interesting mix.

Sting vs. ‘The Nature Boy’ Buddy Landell

This is a re-airing of the match from the 2.9.91 edition of Pro. Easy review this week, folks. Sting wins with the Scorpion Death Lock. (1:19)

  • Final Rating: SQUASH

Segment: Wrestling News Network

Our wrestling lord and savior Gordon Solie is here to recap the feud between Tom Zenk and Terry Taylor. After a time limit draw and one DQ loss each the two will settle their score in a No-DQ match at WrestleWar tomorrow night. We then get footage of El Gigante injuring Paul E. Dangerously last week on WCW. Dangerously is going to try interviewing Gigante again at WrestleWar. We also get a look at Dustin Rhodes, who will also be in action at the PPV. None of those things would compel me to order the PPV but hey more power to WCW for at least doing a little bit of build.

Ricky Morton & ‘Wildfire’ Tommy Rich vs. Arn Anderson & Barry Windham

This match originally aired on the 2.2.91 edition of Pro. Morton & Rich win via countout thanks to interference from Ron Simmons and Teddy Long. Doom and The Horsemen have pretty much concluded their feud from 1990 so none of that matters. (17:25)

  • Final Rating: *3/4

‘The Total Package’ Lex Luger vs. John Peterson

This is also a 2.2.91 Pro match. Luger wins via Torture Rack. (1:57)

  • Final Rating: SQUASH

Sid Vicious vs. Johnny Boyd

Yup, third 2.2.91 Pro match in a row. Sid wins with a Power Bomb and does the whole post-match stretcher thing. Ross and Dangerously spend what little time they have to hype the War Games match at WrestleWar. Yay for that at least. (1:38)

  • Final Rating: SQUASH

Dangerously hypes tonight’s WCW show, which will feature a Danger Zone featuring The Four Horsemen.

Final Thoughts: Anyway.
